Mustache (film)
Mustache (French: La Moustache) is a 2005 French drama film directed by Emmanuel Carrère, based on his 1986 novel of the same name. The film stars Vincent Lindon and Emmanuelle Devos.
The film follows Marc Thiriez (Lindon), a man who one day decides to shave off the mustache he has worn for many years. He expects his wife, Agnès (Devos), and their friends to notice the change, but no one does. This leads Marc to question his relationships, his sense of self, and ultimately, his reality. He becomes increasingly paranoid and begins to believe that his wife and friends are gaslighting him.
Driven by his growing unease and existential crisis, Marc impulsively decides to take a trip to Hong Kong, a place he and Agnès had once planned to visit together. He leaves without telling her, further blurring the lines between reality and illusion as the film explores themes of identity, perception, and the fragile nature of relationships. The film's ambiguous ending leaves the audience questioning whether Marc's experiences are real or a product of his imagination.
