Viyé Diba
Viyé Diba (born 1954) is a Senegalese artist known primarily for his multimedia installations and paintings that often explore themes of consumerism, globalization, and the impact of foreign culture on African societies. His work frequently incorporates found objects, recycled materials, and vibrant colors, reflecting the realities of urban life in Senegal and highlighting issues of economic disparity and cultural identity. Diba studied at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Dakar and has exhibited his work internationally, including at the Venice Biennale. His art is recognized for its critical engagement with contemporary social and political issues and its unique visual language that blends traditional Senegalese motifs with modern artistic techniques.
