Gary Geld
Gary Geld (born June 16, 1935, Newark, New Jersey – died December 19, 2015, Hopewell, New Jersey) was an American songwriter, composer, and pianist. He is best known for his collaborations with lyricist Peter Udell, producing numerous hits during the Brill Building era.
Geld and Udell's songwriting partnership yielded several notable songs, including "Sealed with a Kiss" (popularized by Brian Hyland), "Born to Be Wild" (made famous by Steppenwolf), and "Hurting Each Other" (a hit for both Ruby & the Romantics and The Carpenters).
In addition to their successful pop songs, Geld and Udell also wrote the music for the Broadway musical Shenandoah, which premiered in 1975 and won the Tony Award for Best Music. Their work spanned various genres, from pop and rock to musical theatre, showcasing Geld's musical versatility.
