Swedish football (code)
Swedish football, also known as fotboll in Swedish, is governed by the Swedish Football Association (SvFF), Svenska Fotbollförbundet. The SvFF is responsible for organizing the national leagues, including the top-tier Allsvenskan and the second-tier Superettan for men, and Damallsvenskan for women. They also oversee the Swedish national teams, both men's and women's, as well as youth national teams.
The association is responsible for defining and enforcing the rules of the game in Sweden, adhering to the Laws of the Game as defined by FIFA. They manage the registration of players, referees, and clubs. The SvFF also handles disciplinary matters and promotes the development of football at all levels, from grassroots to elite.
Beyond the professional leagues, Swedish football has a robust amateur and youth structure, with numerous clubs and leagues operating throughout the country. These leagues are organized at regional and local levels and contribute significantly to the overall popularity and participation in the sport.
Swedish football has a long and rich history, with the national team having achieved notable successes on the international stage, including reaching the final of the 1958 FIFA World Cup, hosting the 1958 World Cup, and winning a bronze medal at the 1994 World Cup. The women's national team has also achieved significant success, including silver medals at the 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics.
