Homburg (electoral district)
Homburg is a Bundestag electoral district (German: Wahlkreis) located in the Saarland. It is designated as electoral district number 298.
The district covers the Saarpfalz-Kreis and a portion of the Neunkirchen district, specifically the municipalities of Eppelborn, Illingen, Merchweiler, Schiffweiler, and Spiesen-Elversberg.
Homburg has been represented in the Bundestag by various members from different political parties over time. Historically, it has been a competitive district with shifts in representation between the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Social Democratic Party (SPD). The direct mandate (German: Direktmandat) is awarded to the candidate who receives the most votes in the district. The overall allocation of seats in the Bundestag is determined through a combination of direct mandates and proportional representation based on the nationwide vote share of each party. The performance of parties in Homburg contributes to their overall representation in the German parliament.
