Suicide (wrestling)

In professional wrestling, a "suicide dive" (also sometimes referred to as a "tope suicida" when adopted from Lucha Libre) is a maneuver where a wrestler dives through the ropes to attack an opponent outside of the ring. The attacking wrestler propels themselves forward, launching their body over the top or middle rope, often headfirst or feet-first, towards a standing opponent on the floor. The move is considered high-risk for both the attacker and the receiver, as it involves considerable momentum and a degree of uncertainty about the landing. The "suicide" moniker stems from the perceived recklessness and apparent disregard for the attacker's own safety. The impact can be significant, and while performed safely with proper training and execution, there is always a risk of injury. Variations exist, involving different methods of launching through the ropes and different target locations for the attack. The dive is primarily designed for visual impact and crowd excitement rather than as a purely damaging offensive maneuver.
