Toto (band)

Toto is an American rock band formed in 1977 in Los Angeles, California. The band is known for its musical style that incorporates elements of pop, rock, soul, funk, progressive rock, hard rock, R&B, blues, and jazz.

Toto's founding members were David Paich (keyboards, vocals), Steve Lukather (guitars, vocals), Jeff Porcaro (drums, percussion), David Hungate (bass), Steve Porcaro (keyboards), and Bobby Kimball (vocals). The band rose to mainstream popularity in the late 1970s and early 1980s with the release of several successful albums and singles, including "Hold the Line," "Rosanna," and "Africa."

Their album Toto IV, released in 1982, was a critical and commercial success, winning six Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.

Over the years, Toto has experienced numerous lineup changes, with Steve Lukather and David Paich being the only consistent members throughout the band's history. Despite these changes, the band has continued to tour and record music. Jeff Porcaro's death in 1992 was a significant loss for the band.

Toto has released numerous studio albums, live albums, and compilation albums. They are highly regarded for their musicianship, songwriting, and studio production. The band has sold over 40 million albums worldwide.

Toto announced a hiatus in 2008, but reunited in 2010 for a series of tours. A new lineup, led by Lukather and Paich, was formed in 2019, promising to continue Toto's legacy.
