The Scout (Kansas City, Missouri statue)

The Scout is a bronze statue by Cyrus Edwin Dallin, located in Penn Valley Park in Kansas City, Missouri. Commissioned by the Kansas City Parks Board, it was originally created for the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco. Following the exposition, it was moved to Kansas City in 1922 and permanently installed in its current location.

The statue depicts a Sioux Indian brave on horseback, shielding his eyes with his hand as he surveys the landscape. The figure represents the Plains Indians who once inhabited the area. Dallin aimed to portray a sense of watchful guardianship and quiet dignity in his depiction.

The Scout quickly became a symbol of Kansas City and remains a popular landmark and tourist attraction. It offers panoramic views of the downtown skyline. The statue has undergone several restorations over the years to preserve its condition and ensure its longevity as a significant piece of public art in the city.
