Stroncone

Stroncone is a hill town and comune in the province of Terni, in Umbria, central Italy. Situated approximately 8 kilometers (5 miles) northwest of Terni, it stands on a high, isolated hill overlooking the Terni basin.

History:

The origins of Stroncone are ancient, traditionally attributed to the Romans. The name may derive from the Latin "strongo," meaning "strong" or "fortified." During the Middle Ages, Stroncone was an important fortified center, playing a strategic role in the conflicts between the Papal States and the Holy Roman Empire. It was governed by various feudal lords before coming under the control of the Papal States. In 1860, it became part of the Kingdom of Italy.
