De Staat

De Staat is a Dutch rock band formed in Nijmegen in 2006. The band is known for its eclectic blend of genres, including alternative rock, funk, afrobeat, and electronic music, often characterized by complex arrangements and a distinctive sound.

The core members of De Staat consist of Torre Florim (vocals, guitar), Vedran Mircetic (guitar), Jop van Summeren (bass), Rocco Hueting (keyboards, guitar) and Tim van Delft (drums).

De Staat gained prominence with their debut album, Wait for Evolution (2009), and have since released several critically acclaimed albums, including Machinery (2011), I_CON (2013), O (2016), Bubble Gum (2019), and Red, Yellow, Blue (2023). Their music has garnered significant airplay in the Netherlands and internationally, and they have toured extensively, playing at major festivals such as Glastonbury, Lowlands, and Sziget.

The band's name, "De Staat," translates to "The State" in English. Torre Florim has stated that the name is meant to be ambiguous and open to interpretation, reflecting the band's diverse musical influences and thematic explorations.

De Staat has received numerous awards and nominations, solidifying their position as one of the most innovative and influential rock bands in the Netherlands.
