Steve Barnes (ice hockey)

Steve Barnes (born November 17, 1970) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player. A defenceman, Barnes played primarily in the International Hockey League (IHL) and the American Hockey League (AHL).

Barnes was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft (12th round, 262nd overall). He played in the Kings organization, but never reached the NHL level. He spent the majority of his career with the Phoenix Roadrunners (IHL) and the Binghamton Rangers/Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL). Other teams he played for include the Cincinnati Cyclones (IHL), Adirondack Red Wings (AHL), and Worcester IceCats (AHL).

Barnes was known as a stay-at-home defenceman with a physical edge. He accumulated a significant number of penalty minutes throughout his career, indicative of his aggressive style of play.
