Cash and Carry (game show)
Cash and Carry was a British television game show that aired on BBC Television from 1958 to 1965. It was hosted by Bruce Forsyth.
The show revolved around contestants answering general knowledge questions to earn the right to "shop" for prizes. The stage was set up like a grocery store or supermarket, filled with a variety of goods. Contestants used the money they had accumulated by correctly answering questions to "buy" the prizes they desired.
A key element of the show was the element of strategy. Contestants had to decide whether to spend their winnings on smaller, guaranteed prizes or to gamble on more expensive items that might not be as useful or desirable. There was often a "star prize" that was significantly more valuable than the other items available.
Cash and Carry was known for its fast pace, lively atmosphere, and Bruce Forsyth's energetic hosting style, which often included his catchphrases. The show was popular with viewers due to its combination of general knowledge trivia and the excitement of shopping for prizes. It was one of the earlier examples of a shopping-based game show format.
