Ghomaras

The Ghomaras were a Berber tribal confederation inhabiting the Rif region of northern Morocco. They are historically significant due to their resistance to Arab and, later, European rule. The Ghomara language, a Berber dialect, is still spoken in pockets of the Rif mountains today.

Historically, the Ghomaras were largely independent, maintaining their own social and political structures despite nominal allegiance to various ruling dynasties in Morocco.
