Frafraha

Frafraha refers to an ethnic group primarily located in the Upper East Region of Ghana, West Africa. The Frafra people are also known as the Gurune. The term "Frafra" itself is often used interchangeably with "Gurune," although some sources suggest that Frafra may originally have been a colonial-era term. The Gurune language, also referred to as Frafra, belongs to the Gur language family.

Traditionally, the Frafra are agriculturalists, cultivating millet, sorghum, and other crops. Their society is largely rural and village-based, with strong traditional governance structures. These structures often involve chiefs and elders who play key roles in decision-making and conflict resolution.

The Frafra have a rich cultural heritage, expressed through music, dance, and crafts. They are known for their distinctive round houses with conical thatched roofs, adapted to the climate of the region. Traditional religious beliefs and practices are also significant, often interwoven with daily life and agricultural cycles. Contemporary Frafra society is experiencing increasing modernization and engagement with the wider Ghanaian economy and culture, while still striving to preserve its unique traditions and identity.
