Letovnik

A letovnik (Лето́вник) is a type of summer residence or summer cottage traditionally found in Balkan countries, particularly in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro. These structures are typically located in rural or mountainous areas, offering a retreat from the heat and bustle of urban life during the summer months.

Letovniks are often simple, rustic buildings, constructed using local materials like wood and stone. While some may be more elaborate, the defining characteristic is their seasonal use, primarily during the summer. They serve as a base for enjoying outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, gardening, and spending time in nature. The size and amenities of a letovnik can vary considerably, ranging from basic shelters to more comfortable and equipped dwellings.

The concept of the letovnik is deeply rooted in the cultural tradition of escaping to the countryside during the hotter periods of the year. They represent a connection to nature and a slower pace of life.
