Louis Bertrand (Quebec seigneur)

Louis Bertrand (1731 – 1821) was a Quebec seigneur, merchant, and political figure in Lower Canada.

Born in Quebec City, he was the son of Jean-Baptiste Bertrand and Marie-Anne Duprac. Bertrand became a merchant involved in the fur trade, trading at posts in the Saguenay region. In 1765, he acquired the seigneury of Grand-Île, and in 1788, he acquired the seigneury of Lac-Matapédia. He served in the local militia, reaching the rank of captain.

Bertrand was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada for Cornwallis in 1796 and re-elected in 1800. He was appointed to the Legislative Council of Lower Canada in 1808.

He died at L'Islet in 1821.
