David Jamieson (British politician)

David Jamieson is a British Labour Party politician who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Plymouth Devonport from 1992 to 2005.

Jamieson was born in 1947 and educated at Sir Joseph Williamson's Mathematical School in Rochester, Kent, and at St Peter's College, Oxford, where he read physics. Before entering Parliament, he worked as a teacher and lecturer.

During his time in Parliament, Jamieson held a number of ministerial positions. He served as an Assistant Whip (1997-1999), a Lord Commissioner of the Treasury (1999-2001), Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Transport (2001-2005). In his role at the Department for Transport, he had responsibilities encompassing road safety, aviation, and shipping.

After stepping down as an MP in 2005, Jamieson was appointed Police and Crime Commissioner for the West Midlands in 2014, a position he held until 2024. As Police and Crime Commissioner, he was responsible for setting the strategic direction and budget for West Midlands Police, holding the Chief Constable to account, and representing the public's views on policing.
