Stasi FC

Stasi FC (officially SG Dynamo Hohenschönhausen and later BFC Dynamo) was a football club in East Germany (GDR) closely associated with the Ministry for State Security (Stasi). Founded in 1953, the club relocated to Berlin in 1954.

BFC Dynamo was one of the most successful clubs in East German football history, winning a record ten consecutive East German Oberliga titles between 1979 and 1988. This dominance was largely attributed to the influence and support of Erich Mielke, the head of the Stasi, who was a dedicated fan and allegedly intervened to ensure the team's success.

Accusations of match-fixing and biased refereeing were rife during BFC Dynamo's period of dominance. It was widely believed that Mielke used his power to influence referees and transfer players from other clubs to BFC Dynamo, often against their will. These allegations, though difficult to prove definitively, have significantly tarnished the club's legacy.

Following German reunification in 1990, BFC Dynamo was renamed FC Berlin in an attempt to distance itself from its controversial past. The club struggled to adapt to the unified German football system and has since played primarily in lower divisions. Despite the name change, the club continues to be associated with its Stasi past and faces ongoing resentment from some fans of other former East German clubs.
