St. John's College (Kansas)

St. John's College was a four-year Lutheran liberal arts college located in Winfield, Kansas. Founded in 1893 as St. John's Lutheran College, it was operated by the Evangelical Lutheran Synod. The institution offered a variety of programs, including pre-seminary training, teacher education, and liberal arts degrees.

The college faced financial challenges throughout its history. Despite efforts to maintain operations, St. John's College closed its doors in 1986 due to declining enrollment and persistent financial difficulties. The campus was subsequently sold, and the institution's assets were liquidated.

Though now closed, St. John's College played a role in the development of Lutheran education in the Midwestern United States. Its alumni served in various fields, including ministry, education, and business. The college's legacy continues through the memories of its former students, faculty, and staff.
