Rookery Nook (1970 TV drama)

Rookery Nook was a British television drama adaptation of the 1926 farce by Ben Travers. It was broadcast by the BBC in 1970 as a Play of the Month production. The play tells the story of Clive Popkiss, who attempts to help a young German woman, Clara Popkiss, who speaks very little English, find refuge at Rookery Nook, the country home of his friend Gerald Popkiss. Hilarity ensues as misunderstandings and mistaken identities arise, complicated by the arrival of Gerald's suspicious wife, Gertrude, and the eccentric residents of the village. The adaptation was known for its broad comedic style and its reliance on the fast-paced dialogue and physical comedy characteristic of Travers' Aldwych farces.
