Jim Root (gridiron football)

James "Jim" Root (born May 15, 1950) is a former professional American football player. He played as a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) for the New York Giants.

Root played college football at the University of Missouri. He was drafted by the New York Giants in the 13th round of the 1972 NFL Draft. He played for the Giants from 1972 to 1973, appearing in 28 games.
