Ian Ritchie (businessman)
Ian Ritchie is a Scottish businessman and entrepreneur, known for his contributions to the technology sector, particularly in software and internet infrastructure.
Ritchie founded Office Workstations Limited (OWL) in 1984, a company that developed the software package Guide, one of the first hypertext systems and considered a precursor to the World Wide Web. Guide was notably used by Apple as the basis for its HyperCard application.
After selling OWL, Ritchie went on to found several other technology businesses, including the internet service provider, Internet For Business (IFB). He has also been involved in angel investing and mentoring start-up companies.
Ritchie has held various leadership positions in organizations promoting technology and innovation in Scotland, including being the founding chair of the Scottish Software Federation. He has also been involved in policy discussions related to the development of the digital economy. He received a CBE for his services to industry and education.
