Jorge Martínez (motorcyclist)

Jorge Martínez Salvadores, often known as "Aspar," is a Spanish former Grand Prix motorcycle road racer and team owner. He is a four-time World Champion, having won titles in the 80cc class in 1986, 1987 and 1988, and the 125cc class in 1988.

Born in Alzira, Valencia, Spain, Martínez began his Grand Prix career in 1982. He was a dominant force in the smaller displacement classes throughout the 1980s, known for his aggressive riding style and tactical acumen. His nickname "Aspar" comes from the Spanish word for a type of agricultural tool.

Martínez retired from racing in 1997. Following his racing career, he founded Aspar Team, a successful motorcycle racing team that has competed in various classes of Grand Prix motorcycle racing, including MotoGP, Moto2, and Moto3. Through Aspar Team, he has remained a prominent figure in the sport, nurturing young talent and contributing to the development of motorcycle racing in Spain. His team has achieved considerable success, including world championship titles.
