Velutin
Velutin refers to a fine, velvety fabric, often made of cotton or silk. It is characterized by a short, dense pile that gives it a soft, plush feel. Unlike velvet, which has a longer pile, velutin has a shorter nap, making it less likely to crush or show marks easily.
Velutin is commonly used in applications where a soft, luxurious texture is desired, such as clothing (particularly linings and dresses), upholstery, and decorative items. Its durability and relatively lower cost compared to pure silk velvet make it a practical choice for everyday use. The term is occasionally used to describe other materials that possess a similar soft, velvety surface. The weave structure typically involves warp threads being raised to form the pile, which is then cut to a uniform height.
