Siegfried Lorenz (baritone)

Siegfried Lorenz (born 7 August 1945 in Berlin, Germany – 10 July 2023) was a German operatic baritone, primarily associated with roles in operas by Mozart, Wagner, and Strauss.

Lorenz studied at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin and made his professional debut in 1973 at the Staatsoper Dresden. He remained a member of the Dresden ensemble for many years, becoming known for his strong stage presence and distinctive timbre.

His repertoire included Papageno (The Magic Flute), Wolfram (Tannhäuser), and Count Almaviva (The Marriage of Figaro). He also sang roles in operettas. He performed regularly at major opera houses throughout Europe, including the Staatsoper Berlin, the Vienna State Opera, and the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.

Lorenz was recognized for his interpretations of German Lieder, performing in recitals internationally. He made numerous recordings of operas and Lieder.
