Squirt (drink)
Squirt is a citrus-flavored soft drink, known for its distinctive grapefruit taste. It was created in 1938 by Herb Bishop in Phoenix, Arizona, initially under the name "Goldstone." Bishop changed the name to Squirt shortly thereafter.
Squirt is characterized by its light, refreshing flavor profile, often described as less sweet than many other carbonated beverages. This perceived dryness, coupled with the grapefruit flavor, is a key differentiator for the brand. The drink is typically sold in cans and bottles and is also available as a fountain drink in some regions.
Over the years, Squirt's ownership has changed hands. It was acquired by A&W Brands in 1977, which was later purchased by Cadbury Schweppes. Subsequently, Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages was spun off as Dr Pepper Snapple Group, which is now Keurig Dr Pepper.
Squirt has maintained a loyal following throughout its history, particularly in the American Southwest. The brand has undergone several marketing campaigns, often emphasizing its unique grapefruit flavor and positioning itself as a lighter, more refreshing alternative to other sodas. Variations of Squirt, such as diet versions, have also been introduced.
