Kenneth Norrie (legal scholar)
Kenneth McKinnon Norrie, KC, FRSE (born 1954) is a Scottish legal scholar, specialising in Family Law, Property Law, and Roman Law. He is currently Emeritus Professor of Scots Law at the University of Strathclyde.
Norrie graduated from the University of Edinburgh with an LLB (Hons) and a PhD. He was appointed a lecturer at the University of Edinburgh in 1980 and moved to the University of Strathclyde in 1989, becoming a professor in 1992. He served as Head of the Law School at Strathclyde from 1997 to 2001. He retired from his chair in 2016.
His principal publications include:
- Family Law in Scotland (Butterworths, 1991, 1995, 2003, 2018) - A leading textbook on Scots Family Law.
- Scottish Land Law (W Green, 1999, 2009, 2023) - A major text on the principles of Scots Land Law, co-authored with Professor George Gretton.
- Divorce: Defended Actions (Tottel Publishing, 2008) - A practical guide for legal practitioners.
- Numerous articles in academic journals on topics within his areas of expertise.
Norrie was appointed Queen's Counsel (now King's Counsel) in 2010 and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 2011. He continues to research and write on topics related to Scottish law.
