Windsor Station (Montreal)

Windsor Station, located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, is a former railway station that served as the headquarters of the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) from 1889 to 1996. Designed in a Romanesque Revival style by architect Bruce Price, it initially served as the primary terminus for CPR passenger trains, connecting Montreal to major cities across Canada and the United States.

Over the decades, Windsor Station became a significant landmark and a symbol of Montreal's prominence as a railway hub. The station's architectural features include a grand concourse, elaborate stonework, and a prominent clock tower.

The decline of passenger rail travel in the latter half of the 20th century led to a reduction in train services at Windsor Station. In 1996, the CPR moved its headquarters and the main train services were shifted to the Gare Centrale (Central Station).

Today, Windsor Station remains a significant building and a protected heritage site. While no longer serving as a major train terminus, the station has been repurposed into a multi-use complex that includes offices, shops, and restaurants. The concourse area is often used for events and exhibitions. The building is connected to the underground city, Montreal's network of underground pedestrian walkways.

The Windsor Station name also persists as a designated Réseau express métropolitain (REM) light rail station, continuing its association with transportation in Montreal.
