Enrico Rossi (politician)
Enrico Rossi (born August 25, 1958, Pontedera) is an Italian politician. He served as the President of Tuscany from 2010 to 2020.
Rossi began his political career within the Italian Communist Party (PCI) and later joined the Democratic Party of the Left (PDS) after the PCI's dissolution. He continued his involvement with subsequent iterations of the Italian left, including the Democrats of the Left (DS) and ultimately the Democratic Party (PD).
Before becoming President of Tuscany, Rossi held various local government positions. He served as the Mayor of Pontedera from 1990 to 1999 and later as the President of the Province of Pisa from 1999 to 2000. He then became the Regional Minister of Health for Tuscany, a position he held until his election as President.
As President of Tuscany, Rossi focused on issues such as healthcare, economic development, and environmental protection. He was known for his policies promoting public healthcare and supporting local businesses. He was re-elected for a second term in 2015.
After leaving office in 2020, Rossi has remained active in political discourse and commentary. He is the author of several books focusing on politics, society, and the future of the Italian left.
