Daraa offensive (February–May 2014)
The Daraa offensive (February–May 2014) was a military operation launched by Syrian government forces and their allies against rebel-held areas in the Daraa Governorate of Syria during the Syrian Civil War. The offensive aimed to recapture strategic territory, particularly the Nasib border crossing with Jordan, which had fallen under rebel control earlier in the conflict.
The offensive involved heavy fighting, including artillery shelling, airstrikes, and ground assaults. Both sides suffered significant casualties. While Syrian government forces made some territorial gains, they ultimately failed to achieve their primary objective of regaining control of the Nasib border crossing.
The offensive resulted in significant displacement of civilians from the affected areas. Reports emerged of alleged human rights abuses committed by both sides during the fighting. The offensive further exacerbated the already dire humanitarian situation in Daraa Governorate.
Following the conclusion of the offensive in May 2014, fighting continued in the region, although the intensity of the clashes decreased. The Daraa Governorate remained divided between government and rebel control until the 2018 Southern Syria offensive.
