Daniel Carroll (rugby union)

Daniel Carroll (born c. 1892, died 1956) was an Irish-American rugby union player who represented both the United States and Australia internationally. He is the only person to have won Olympic gold medals in rugby for two different nations.

Carroll emigrated from Ireland to the United States as a young man. He played for Santa Clara University and was a member of the United States team that won the gold medal at the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp. Following the Olympics, he moved to Australia, where he played for the Eastern Suburbs club and represented New South Wales. He was selected for the Australian national team, the Wallabies, and toured New Zealand in 1921. He won a second Olympic gold medal with the Australian team at the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris. After his playing career, Carroll became a coach, notably coaching the Romanian national rugby team.
