Yael Lotan (writer)

Yael Lotan (1935-2003) was an Israeli writer, translator, and science fiction fan. Born in Palestine, she was a prominent figure in Israeli science fiction fandom and a prolific translator of science fiction and fantasy works into Hebrew. Lotan was also a member of the World Science Fiction Society (WSFS) and a regular attendee at Worldcons.

Lotan was known for her strong opinions, sharp wit, and dedication to promoting science fiction and fantasy in Israel. While not primarily known as a fiction author, she contributed articles and essays to various publications. Her most significant impact was through her extensive translation work, which introduced a wide range of English-language science fiction and fantasy to Hebrew-speaking audiences. This included works by authors such as Isaac Asimov, Robert A. Heinlein, Ursula K. Le Guin, and Roger Zelazny.

Lotan's influence extended beyond translation; she actively fostered the development of Israeli science fiction and fantasy writing through her involvement in fan organizations and her encouragement of aspiring writers.
