Soviet destroyer Reshitelny (1966)

The Reshitelny was a Kotlin-class destroyer of the Soviet Navy. Laid down in 1965 and commissioned in 1966, she served primarily in the Black Sea Fleet. Kotlin-class destroyers were a post-World War II design intended to provide anti-submarine and anti-aircraft defense for larger surface combatant groups, as well as conduct independent patrols. Key features of the class included a high speed (over 35 knots) and a significant armament suite for its size.

Reshitelny's operational history likely involved participation in naval exercises within the Black Sea and potentially deployments to the Mediterranean Sea during periods of heightened Cold War tensions. These deployments would have served as a demonstration of Soviet naval power and provided a presence in strategically important waters. Specific details of her individual missions and deployments are, however, often limited to information available in declassified Soviet Navy archives or Western intelligence reports.

The Kotlin class was eventually superseded by more modern destroyer designs. Many Kotlin-class ships, including Reshitelny, were decommissioned in the late 1980s and early 1990s as part of the Soviet Navy's modernization efforts and the general reduction in military spending that followed the end of the Cold War. The Reshitelny would have likely been scrapped after decommissioning. While details of her scrapping are not readily available in open sources, the general fate of decommissioned Soviet warships of that era was typically dismantling for scrap metal.
