Siwana (also known as Shivana or Chhappan) is a historical town and tehsil located in the Barmer district of Rajasthan, India. Known for its rugged terrain and strategic importance, Siwana served as a stronghold for various Rajput clans, most notably the Paramara and Rathore dynasties.

History:

Siwana's history is marked by numerous sieges and battles. It was a significant fort under the Paramara rulers in the 10th-12th centuries. Later, it came under the control of the Rathores. Its strategic location made it a crucial defensive point against invaders. The fort played a key role in resisting the expansionist ambitions of the Delhi Sultanate, particularly during the reigns of Alauddin Khalji, who captured it after a prolonged siege in 1308, and Mughal emperors. The town witnessed acts of bravery and jauhar (self-immolation) by Rajput women to protect their honor.
