Satchel (band)
Satchel was an Australian alternative rock band formed in Perth in 1991. The band's core members were Greg MacLeod on vocals and guitar, and Mathew "Mat" Devitt on bass guitar. Other members included a rotating lineup of drummers, most notably Klaus Flouride, formerly of the Dead Kennedys, who played on some of their earlier recordings.
Satchel's music was characterized by its blend of psychedelic rock, pop sensibilities, and introspective lyrics. They gained a following in the Perth music scene before signing with Mushroom Records and releasing their debut album, The Family Felton, in 1994. This album earned them critical acclaim and airplay on Triple J radio.
Following The Family Felton, Satchel released a second album, Happy Meal, in 1996. Happy Meal continued to explore similar musical themes, but also incorporated elements of electronica. While it wasn't as commercially successful as their debut, it was well received by fans.
Satchel disbanded in the late 1990s. Greg MacLeod pursued other musical projects, including a solo career. Mat Devitt also remained active in the music industry. While Satchel's discography is relatively small, they are remembered as a significant band in the Perth alternative rock scene of the 1990s. Their sound is often compared to bands like The Church and The Triffids.
