Jim Weaver (sportsperson)

Jim Weaver is a former American college athletics administrator and coach, primarily known for his long tenure at Virginia Tech.

Weaver served as the Athletic Director at Virginia Tech from 1987 to 2003. During his leadership, Virginia Tech experienced considerable growth and success in its athletic programs. He oversaw the university's transition into the Big East Conference and later facilitated the move to the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Weaver was instrumental in upgrading facilities and expanding athletic programs, which contributed to the university's rise in national prominence in college sports.

Prior to his administrative role, Weaver was a successful football coach. He served as an assistant coach at several universities before becoming the head coach at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) from 1973 to 1975. After his stint at UNLV, he continued his coaching career before transitioning into athletic administration.

Weaver's contributions to Virginia Tech athletics are widely recognized, and he is often credited with laying the groundwork for the university's continued success in the ACC.
