Marmaduke Dixon (mountaineer)

Marmaduke Dixon (born c. 1855, died 1933) was a British mountaineer known for his ascents in the Alps and the Caucasus. While not as widely known as some of his contemporaries, Dixon was a prominent figure in the late 19th and early 20th century golden age of alpinism. He was a member of the Alpine Club and contributed articles to the Alpine Journal.

Dixon's mountaineering career began in the Alps, where he made numerous ascents of notable peaks, including Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn, and the Eiger. He was particularly noted for his interest in difficult routes and new variations.
