Salyut 7 (film)

Salyut 7 is a 2017 Russian disaster drama film directed by Klim Shipenko. It is based on the 1985 mission to salvage the Soviet space station Salyut 7. The film dramatizes the real-life events surrounding the loss of contact with the unmanned station and the subsequent perilous mission undertaken by cosmonauts Vladimir Dzhanibekov and Viktor Savinykh to dock with, repair, and reactivate it.

The film depicts the significant challenges and risks involved in the mission, including the lack of real-time telemetry, the station's uncontrolled spin, the dangerous temperatures inside, and the potential for life-threatening equipment malfunctions. It portrays the courage and resourcefulness of the cosmonauts, as well as the dedication of the ground control team.

Salyut 7 was a commercial success in Russia and received generally positive reviews for its visual effects, acting, and depiction of the space mission. While it took some artistic liberties with the actual events for dramatic effect, it is generally considered to be a compelling and engaging cinematic retelling of a significant event in Soviet space history. It also generated discussions about the portrayal of Soviet space endeavors and comparisons with other space-themed films.
