Jack Roderick (politician)
Jack Roderick (1929 – 2016) was an American politician, lawyer, and author, best known for his service as Mayor of the Greater Anchorage Area Borough in Alaska from 1972 to 1975.
Roderick was born in Seattle, Washington, and moved to Alaska in the 1950s, initially working in the mining industry. He later pursued a law degree.
As Mayor of the Greater Anchorage Area Borough, Roderick oversaw the early development and management of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System and its associated economic impacts on the region. His administration focused on issues related to rapid population growth, infrastructure development, and resource management during this period of significant change in Alaska.
Following his tenure as mayor, Roderick continued to be involved in Alaskan politics and business. He authored several books, including "Crude Dreams: A Personal History of Oil & Politics in Alaska," which provides an insider's account of the state's oil industry and political landscape. He remained a prominent voice in discussions concerning Alaska's resources and its future. Roderick passed away in Anchorage in 2016.
