Alfred Allen (actor)

Alfred Allen (born January 8, 1858, in Alfred, Maine; died June 18, 1924, in Hollywood, California) was an American actor of the silent film era. Allen appeared in over 120 films between 1911 and 1924, often in supporting roles.

Allen began his career on the stage before transitioning to film. He worked with several notable directors, including D.W. Griffith and John Ford. His filmography includes roles in notable productions such as The Battle at Elderbush Gulch (1913), The Birth of a Nation (1915) where he played the role of a northern politician, Intolerance (1916), and The Iron Horse (1924).

While not a leading man, Allen was a prolific character actor known for his versatility. He frequently portrayed authority figures, such as judges, doctors, or military officers. He was married to Lillian Hart. He died at the age of 66 in Hollywood, California.
