Demo (comics)

Demo is the title of a comic book series written by Brian Wood and illustrated by Becky Cloonan, published by AiT/Planet Lar. The series ran for twelve issues, released monthly from 2003 to 2004.

Each issue of Demo presents a standalone, self-contained story featuring a different protagonist. All characters are connected thematically by the exploration of the complexities and challenges of youth, specifically young adults navigating extraordinary or unusual circumstances. While the stories are diverse in their subject matter, a common thread involves the characters possessing some form of superhuman ability or facing situations that test their morality and relationships. The series is generally characterized by its focus on character development and emotional depth, rather than traditional superhero action or plot-driven narratives. It is often cited for its indie aesthetic and its success in telling compelling, relatable stories within the context of speculative fiction. The series won an Eisner Award in 2004 for Best Single Issue for issue #7, "One Shot, Don't Miss."
