Robert Hope (Australian politician)
Robert Hope (born 1942) is a former Australian politician who served as a Member of the New South Wales Legislative Council from 1991 to 1999. He was initially elected as a member of the Australian Labor Party (ALP) but later resigned from the party to sit as an independent.
Hope was born in Sydney, New South Wales. Prior to entering politics, he worked as a teacher and was involved in various community organisations.
Elected to the Legislative Council in 1991, Hope served on several committees and participated in debates on a range of issues. His political interests included education, social justice, and environmental protection.
Hope's resignation from the ALP occurred in 1997, following disagreements with the party leadership over policy direction. As an independent MLC, he continued to represent his constituents and advocate for his political beliefs. He did not recontest his seat at the 1999 election.
Since leaving parliament, Hope has remained active in public life, contributing to discussions on public policy and engaging in community service.
