USS Calypso (SP-632)

The USS Calypso (SP-632) was a United States Navy patrol vessel in commission from 1917 to 1919. Calypso was a wooden-hulled, screw-propelled yacht built in 1890 by Harlan and Hollingsworth of Wilmington, Delaware. Prior to her naval service, she was owned by E.W. Clark & Co. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

In May 1917, the Navy acquired Calypso under a free lease from her owner for use as a patrol boat during World War I. She was designated SP-632 and commissioned into service.

Assigned to the 4th Naval District, Calypso performed patrol duties along the coast of Pennsylvania and Delaware for the duration of the war. Her primary function was to guard against German U-boats and other enemy activity.

Following the Armistice in November 1918, Calypso's patrol duties lessened. She was decommissioned in January 1919 and returned to her owner. Her subsequent fate is not readily available in standard naval historical records.
