Akagi (train)

The Akagi is a limited express train service in Japan operated by East Japan Railway Company (JR East). It primarily connects Tokyo (Ueno Station or Tokyo Station) with Maebashi in Gunma Prefecture, serving the Jōetsu Line and Takasaki Line. Some Akagi services also operate to and from other stations along the same lines, such as Shin-maebashi.

The train is intended to provide a comfortable and relatively quick connection for commuters and travelers between the Tokyo metropolitan area and Gunma Prefecture. It supplements other rail services on the same route.

The Akagi uses E257 series EMUs and 651 series EMUs.

The name "Akagi" is derived from Mount Akagi, a prominent mountain in Gunma Prefecture, reflecting the train's destination.
