Nike+iPod
Nike+iPod was a collaboration between Nike, Inc. and Apple Inc. that allowed Nike shoes and select Apple iPods or iPhones to communicate, tracking the distance and pace of a user's workout. The system primarily consisted of a sensor placed inside a compatible Nike shoe, which wirelessly transmitted data to the iPod or iPhone.
The Nike+iPod system aimed to enhance the user's running or walking experience by providing real-time feedback on their performance. The iPod or iPhone displayed metrics such as time, distance, pace, and calories burned. The user could also receive audible updates during their workout through headphones connected to the Apple device.
The data collected during a workout was stored on the iPod or iPhone and could be synchronized with the Nike+ website (now the Nike Run Club platform). This allowed users to track their progress over time, set goals, participate in challenges, and connect with other runners.
The initial Nike+iPod products were released in 2006. As Apple products and Nike's own digital offerings evolved, the specific functionality and integration of the Nike+iPod system have been superseded by newer technologies like the Apple Watch and Nike Run Club app. The original hardware is no longer actively supported.
