Richard Brooke (priest)

Richard Brooke (d. 1662) was an English clergyman and ejected minister. He served as the Vicar of Writtle, Essex.

Brooke was a graduate of Emmanuel College, Cambridge, where he earned his B.A. in 1624 and his M.A. in 1627. He was presented to the living of Writtle by Sir Henry Mildmay, likely in the late 1630s or early 1640s.

During the English Civil War and Interregnum, Brooke remained at Writtle, although he held Presbyterian views. Following the Restoration of the monarchy in 1660, the Act of Uniformity 1662 required ministers to conform to the Book of Common Prayer. Brooke, unable to comply, was ejected from his position at Writtle in 1662. He died shortly afterwards in the same year.

His son, Samuel Brooke, was also a nonconformist minister.
