Ray Groom
Ray Groom (born 1944) is an Australian politician and lawyer. He served as the 36th Premier of Tasmania from 1992 to 1996, representing the Liberal Party. Prior to becoming Premier, he held various ministerial portfolios within the Tasmanian government.
Groom entered Tasmanian Parliament in 1976 representing the electorate of Denison. He was a prominent figure in the Tasmanian Liberal Party for many years, known for his fiscally conservative policies and focus on economic development. After his premiership, he continued to serve in Parliament before retiring from politics. Groom subsequently worked as a consultant and remained involved in public life. He is a graduate of the University of Tasmania with a degree in law. His time as Premier was marked by economic reforms and efforts to attract investment to the state.
