Riding the Bullet (film)

Riding the Bullet is a 2004 psychological horror film directed by Mick Garris, based on the novella of the same name by Stephen King. The film stars Jonathan Jackson, David Arquette, Barbara Hershey, and Cliff Robertson.

The plot follows Alan Parker (Jackson), a college student in Maine in 1969, who receives news of his mother's stroke. Desperate to reach her in the hospital and lacking transportation, he decides to hitchhike. During his journey, he encounters George Staub (Arquette), a mysterious and unsettling man who claims to be dead. Staub gives Alan a disturbing choice: decide which of two people, his mother or himself, must die. The film explores themes of death, guilt, morality, and the psychological impact of trauma.

Riding the Bullet received mixed reviews upon its release. While some praised its atmosphere and performances, particularly Arquette's portrayal of Staub, others criticized its pacing and perceived lack of scares. The film was produced by Artisan Entertainment and Lions Gate Films. The soundtrack features music by Nicholas Pike.
