Połaniec

Połaniec is a town in Staszów County, Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, in south-central Poland. It is the seat of the gmina (administrative district) called Gmina Połaniec. The town lies on the Czarna Staszowska River, approximately 17 kilometres (11 mi) south-east of Staszów and 71 km (44 mi) south-east of the regional capital Kielce.

Historically, Połaniec is known for the Oath of Połaniec (Uniwersał Połaniecki) issued in 1794 by Tadeusz Kościuszko during the Kościuszko Uprising. This act granted personal freedom to peasants and guaranteed them state assistance, aiming to engage them in the fight against the partitioning powers.

The town is also notable for the Połaniec Power Station, a large coal-fired power plant, which is a significant contributor to Poland's energy production.

As of 2021, the town's population was approximately 8,200.
