Röntgen (crater)
Röntgen is a large lunar impact crater that is located on the far side of the Moon. It lies to the northwest of the larger crater Poinsot, and northeast of the crater Von Baeyer.
This crater is heavily eroded, and its features have been softened by subsequent impacts. The outer rim is irregular and uneven, with multiple smaller craters lying across the edge and within the interior. Several of these impacts have merged with Röntgen's rim, forming bulges and indentations. The interior floor is relatively level but marked by several small craters. Due to its location on the far side, Röntgen cannot be viewed directly from Earth and requires satellite observation. Its name honors the German physicist Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, discoverer of X-rays.
